Originally, I had no intentions of releasing any information about my 2019 National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) project until the official cover is ready.
However, today is the final day of the Instagram #InstaWriMo challenge and today’s theme is “Ready to write” and I thought, what better way to show it than by releasing a little bit of teaser information for my project?
So, without further ado, here is what I am willing to share about the story.
As seen above, the story is called Shipboard Romance and is a Stranger Things fanfiction. Although the plot details are largely unknown to me at this point (I’ll be spending October planning out the story in preparation), I can reveal a little snippet of what I know thus far.
Shipboard Romance will follow Stranger Things characters Joyce, Hopper, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, Max, El, Jonathan and Nancy as they embark on a Disney cruise vacation after Joyce wins a free trip in a radio contest. The story will follow five duos on the cruise ship as they get into (playful) mischief and enjoy a much-needed vacation.
This story will not take place with the canon of the TV series. It will take place in a modern setting and have modern technology, and will not feature elements of the Upside Down. It will be the same characters, but in a different context.
What will make this story unique for me as a writer and what will be challenging is that each chapter of the story will focus on a different duo as they spend time together aboard the cruise ship. For the most part, each duo will have its own separate adventure on the ship and the story will shift focus to each duo through the chapters.
The duos that will be paired together in the story are as follows:
1. Byeler (Will/Mike)
2. Jopper (Joyce/Hopper)
3. Jancy (Jonathan/Nancy)
4. Elmax (El/Max)
5. Henclair (Dustin/Lucas)
My sister Savannah is illustrating a proper cover for this story. I’ll release it as soon as it’s ready. I can promise that it’s going to have the same vibes as the official Stranger Things posters; we planned the cover with those in mind.
I’ll be writing the story in November during NaNoWriMo. I’ll take December off to get away from the first draft for a little while and work on other projects and celebrate the holidays. In early 2020, I’ll go back to the story and begin publishing on my Archive of Our Own account. Stay tuned!
