Evanescence is returning to its rock roots in 2019!
The band announced that it has booked a few U.S. festival dates in May and that the group will perform rock music for the first time since the Synthesis Tour.
Time to knock the rock dust off. We just signed on to do a few US festival dates in May so look out for show announcements! š

So far, only one show has been confirmed. Evanescence will perform at Welcome to Rockville on May 3 in Jacksonville, Fla. It remains to be seen where else weāll get to see Evanescence rock out.
Of course one major aspect of the show to consider will be the setlist. The traditional Evanescence songs will be performed (Bring Me to Life, My Immortal, Going Under, Call Me When Youāre Sober, My Heart is Broken, etc.). The upcoming shows would be the perfect time to play some songs that havenāt been performed live in a long time. Hereās a look at some songs Iād love to hear live:
Anywhere
I donāt hold my breath on this one because itās a song from Origin. While the songs that were on Origin that later appeared on Fallen will likely get performed, other Origin songs most likely wonāt. But, I can dream, canāt I? Anywhere is my favorite Origin track. Itās a love ballad the features a duet between Amy and former Evanescence pianist David Hodges. However, the song would work without the duet and Iād love to hear 2019 Amy Lee singing the song.
Farther Away
Farther Away is a song meant for Fallen, but it was cut prior to the release. Itās featured as the middle of the Anywhere But Home live album. The song is a powerful rock song that involves a lot of heavy instrumentals with headbanging. I can totally imagine Troy, Jen and Tim rocking out on their guitars to this song, with Amyās soaring vocals echoing through the stage and Will slamming his drums and cymbals (he might even break a stick or two because of the fast pace of this song).
Snow White Queen
This gem is probably the most unique song on The Open Door. It opens with some odd sounds that Iāve never quite been able to place, though they sound like something that could come right out of a video game. Snow White Queen builds in intensity as it gets closer to the chorus before Amy belts out the lyrics āYou belong to me, my Snow White Queen.ā Iāve read that the song is about stalking and how Amy would feel like something of a queen (or something to that effect). Itās one of my favorites on the album and it would be something for the band to play it live.
All That Iām Living For
Ā All that I canāt ignore, my ghosts are gaining on me! What a song. This song works as both a hard rock song and an acoustic one. Iāve heard both editions of it and would love to hear either version played live in 2019.Ā Personally, though, I hope the hard rock version is played, as that will let the band jam out and as the band has pointed out, itās time to knock the rock dust off.
Erase This
Erase This is another one of those fast-paced songs. The quick piano notes accompanied by guitars, bass and drums would get the crowd pumped up and get them on their feet. Finally, Amyās vocals, which would travel just as fast as the rest of the music, would really get the audience going. Erase This is a song to rock out to and do some fancy dance moves during. All of the elements blended together make it a true rock ballad and one that would bring a lot of energy not only for the crowd, but for the band while performing it.
End of the Dream (EV 3 version)
End of the Dream was one of several songs remastered on Synthesis. Itās also the only song from Evanescenceās self-titled album that has never been performed in its original form. I read somewhere thatās because Amy wanted it to contain more electronica (as it does in the Synthesis version), but it ended up turning into a traditional rock song because of the record company. Recently, I listened to the EV 3 version of the song and realized how much I enjoy it as I do its reimagining. Iād love to hear the original live, as itās a powerful song and since the goal is to rock out, that will certainly be accomplished.
Oceans
This one starts with several synthesizers playing all at once to get a powerful buzzing sound as its intro. If memory serves me correctly, I think there were six synthesizers used in the intro when the song was recorded. Oceans speaks of crossing the oceans in our minds. I think of it as overcoming issues and hardships in the world. My favorite part of the song occurs near the end when all of the music stops and there is silence for about a second and a half before the fast rock resumes and the final chorus is played.
Never Go Back
Ā Another song that was reimagined for Synthesis, Never Go Back is another fast song that would get the crowd going when performed live. Quick guitars, bass and drums start the song before the guitar and bass back down while Amy and the drums feature prominently during the first verse. Eventually, all of the elements come together for the chorus and remain in harmony throughout the rest of the song.
Imperfection (Rock Version)
Thereās no denying that Imperfection is a true Evanescence song. The lyrics talk about preventing suicide and not letting oneās imperfections take over them. When I watched the Synthesis Live version of the song last night, I could hear elements of rock being performed with the orchestra. Then I imagined the song with just the rock elements playing and I got excited to hear the song in a new light. It may sound totally different than it does in its original state, but that would breathe new life into the song and make for a memorable performance.
Love Exists
My absolute favorite Amy Lee song is her reimagining of L’amore esiste,Ā Love Exists. The song talks about the definition of love and how “love makes no sense, love has no name, love drowns you in tears and then sets your heart on fire.” In addition to being my favorite Amy song, it’s my favorite love song. I would love to see Amy sitting at the piano and hear her singing out these lyrics as the audience is captivated by her performance. I might squeal in excitement at this, particularly if I get lucky and Evanescence performs near Austin. Here’s hoping!
