At least two more series set in a galaxy far, far away are set for release in the remaining months of 2024.
So far, Star Wars has released the third and final season of The Bad Batch and the original series The Acolyte in 2024. At Disney’s D23 event Friday and later released on social media, viewers were treated to a preview of the next two Star Wars series coming to Disney+.
Up first is a four-part special called Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy. Based on the initial teaser released a few months ago and the full-length trailer released Friday, it appears this special will concern a multi-verse of sorts in the Star Wars galaxy.
As described on starwars.com, the special will follow Sig Greebling (voiced by Gaten Matarazzo, of Stranger Things fame), who finds his galaxy shaken up after he and his brother Dev (voiced by Tony Revolori) find a Jedi Temple and remove an object called the Cornerstone.
The two trailers suggest that Sig and Dev work to try and restore the Star Wars universe as we know it and they come across alternative versions of characters we know and love. Probably the most obvious alternate character we come across is Darth Jar Jar (voiced by Ahmed Best, who played Jar Jar in the prequels and voiced him in The Clone Wars), which references a popular theory that Jar Jar was in fact an undercover Sith lord. The most recent trailer also features an alternate version of Luke Skywalker (voiced by Mark Hamill, reprising his iconic role), who seems to be a retired surfer dude type, based on his appearance in the trailer.
Rebuild the Galaxy is set to arrive on Disney+ on September 13.
Skeleton Crew
Also shown at D23 was a first trailer of the series, Skeleton Crew. This series takes place in the same timeframe as The Mandalorian and its sister shows, a few years after Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
Skeleton Crew is unique in that it will follow a group of children as the leads rather than adults. The four children are named Wim, Fern, KB and Neel and the four of them go on an adventure in a dangerous galaxy. Social media discussion has suggested this series will be The Goonies set in space, though the trailer also seemed to give off a Stranger Things vibe as well.
Also starring in the series is Jude Law, playing a Jedi named Jod Na Nawood, a new character to the Star Wars universe. Although there is no information available about Law’s character, he has done a fine job playing another mystical character, playing a young Albus Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts film series.
Skeleton Crew, executive directed by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau streams on Disney+ starting on December 3.
Other News
In addition to the first looks at these new series, fans were treated to news about two other big projects in the works. First up was an appearance by Andor star and executive producer Diego Luna. As per starwars.com, Luna gave visual confirmation to attendees of D23 that Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) and K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) will appear in season two of Andor. Krennice and K-2SO were first introduced with Cassian Andor in Star Wars: Rogue One in 2016. Season two of Andor will premiere sometime in 2025 on Disney+.
Finally, fans of The Mandalorian received welcome news about the next chapter in the Mandoverse. As previously announced, Mando and Grogu are headed to the silver screen for The Mandalorian and Grogu, a film directed by Favreau and written by Favreau and Filoni, who both confirmed production is officially underway. This film is set for release on May 22, 2026 and will be the first Star Wars film since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.
