We’ve got just about a month until we see the return of Ahsoka Tano, this time as the headliner of her own mini-series.
Ahsoka is set to debut on Disney+ on August 23, with the first two episodes of the eight-episode show planned for release.
The series will follow the titular character (played by Rosario Dawson, reprising the role from The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett) as she investigates a looming threat in the form of Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen, reprising the role in Rebels). Thrawn disappeared at the end of Rebels when Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) trapped Thrawn on his own ship and the two were sent into the Unknown Regions.
Ahsoka will also feature the return of most of the Ghost crew, who were introduced in Rebels. Aside from Ezra, it’s been confirmed (and they’ve been seen in the trailers for the show) that Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Chopper will appear in the show. While not confirmed yet, it’s likely we’ll also see the return of Zeb Orrelios (Steven Blum), who had his live action debut in season three of The Mandalorian earlier this year.
Although Kanan Jarrus (voiced by Freddy Prinze Jr. in Rebels) was killed off in the earlier show, it’s possible he could return in some fashion. Indeed, Kanan’s voice was among those heard by Rey during her confrontation with The Emperor in The Rise of Skywalker. If Kanan does appear, it will likely be a vocal cameo or potentially a Force Ghost apparition.
Also confirmed to return is Genevieve O’Reilly portraying Mon Mothma. O’Reilly reprises her role from Revenge of the Sith, Rogue One and Andor. She also voiced the character in Rebels. In Ahsoka, Mothma is no longer a Senator or even a Rebel. At this point in the timeline (set about five years after Return of the Jedi), Mothma is Chancellor of the New Republic. She is seen briefly in one of the trailers seemingly talked to by Hera, who is begging not to be dragged into another war.
As of right now, there is no confirmation of the return of another character who was introduced at the same time as Ahsoka: Captain Rex. Rex was Anakin Skywalker’s captain during The Clone Wars and went into hiding along with Ahsoka after Order 66 (though they quickly went their separate ways). Rex returned in Rebels, which confirmed he fought in the Battle of Endor depicted in Return of the Jedi. It would be appropriate for Rex to returned, as he and Ahsoka have a long-standing relationship dating back through Ahsoka’s teenage years. If he does indeed return, it’s most likely he will be played by Temuera Morrison, who played Jango Fett and the Clones in the prequels and Boba Fett in The Book of Boba Fett.
If the trailers are any indication, Ahsoka will feel like a fifth season of Rebels. Indeed, the second trailer felt like a trailer for Rebels, given how featured the Ghost crew was in that trailer. And given that Ahsoka’s creator, Dave Filoni, is heading this series as he did Rebels, it would make sense for this show to be a live action season five of Rebels.
Until August 23, May the Force be with You.
