Evanescence releases another slammer from The Bitter Truth.
Use my Voice is the third song from the forthcoming fifth album. The songs from the album have been released one at a time due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
Use my Voice is a powerful rock ballad that features Amy Lee’s soaring vocals and the traditional heavy guitar, bass and drums reminiscent of most Evanescence music. Vocally, however, Use my Voice is a call to action, specifically regarding voting in the 2020 Election in November.
In the past few months, Evanescence has been encouraging fans to register to vote and to vote as early and as safely as possible. The song also doubles as a campaign Lee launched last week. The campaign is in partnership with HeadCount, a non-partisan, non-profit voter registration information. Last week, a PSA featuring a portion of the song accompanied the campaign.

“This year is going to be more complicated than normal because of COVID,” Lee said in an interview with Rolling Stone. “Every state has different rules for registering and voting, and things will be different because of the pandemic. It doesn’t have to be overwhelming.”
Lee and Evanescence have traditionally been mute on the subject of politics within their music.
“The state of our nation right now weighs very heavily on my heart, like never before,” Lee told Rolling stone. “I felt too much to keep it in this time and a responsibility to do something with my platform to try and help — to empower the people. To shine a light. To fight for freedom because it’s not free, it takes work. We can’t just expect things to go as they should and for people to be honest and fair, we have to keep them in check. I believe it’s time for us to take our country back.”
Lee encouraging fans to vote and also speak out against numerous lies peddled by the Trump administration have been met both by cheers and criticism. The criticism largely consisted of so-called “fans” telling Lee to stay in her lane, stick with singing and stay out of politics.
However, Lee has never been one to be bossed around by anyone. Use my Voice features a rebuttal of the criticism, with Lee singing, “Whether you like it or not, you’re gonna take what I got/If we can’t talk about it, we’ll just keep drowning it it/Give me credit or not, I give and I give a lot/ But don’t you speak for me.”
Another great feature of the song is a chorus with several women singing backing vocals, Evanescence guitarist Jen Majura, Lzzy Hale, Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless, Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation, violinist Lindsey Stirling, Lee’s sisters Carrie South and Lori Lee Bulloch, lead guitarist Troy McLawhorn’s wife’ Amy and the song’s co-writer Deena Jakoub of the band Veridia.
One of the most exciting parts of making our new song was getting a little help from our friends. A very special thank you to all the incredible women who lent their voices to create the tidal wave of girl power on #UseMyVoice. Out Aug 14th!
